SUT Ranks Joint 8th Among Thai Universities

Reinforcing International Progress in Research, Teaching, and Industry Collaboration

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has ranked joint 8th among Thai universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025, officially announced on April 23, 2025, by THE, a leading UK-based ranking organization. This year’s edition evaluated 1,213 top universities across 35 Asian countries.

SUT also secured 3rd place among Thailand’s technology-focused universities and was placed within the 501–600 band among leading institutions in Asia, reflecting its steady growth in international standing.

The ranking methodology is based on five core performance indicators and 17 supporting metrics, weighted as follows:

• Research Quality (30%)

• Research Environment (28%)

• Teaching (24.5%)

• Industry Income (10%)

• International Outlook (7.5%)

SUT achieved a total score of 30.7 points, with notable performance in the following areas:

• Industry Income: 52.2 (6th in Thailand)

• Research Environment: 21.5 (7th in Thailand)

• Teaching: 26.0 (8th in Thailand)

• International Outlook: 36.7 (10th in Thailand)

• Research Quality: 34.3 (12th in Thailand, an increase of 3 points from last year)

Associate Professor Dr. Anan Tongraar, SUT Rector , stated:

“This ranking reflects our sustained progress in strengthening the quality and impact of our research, including publication volume, citations, and journal standards. It also demonstrates our commitment to academic excellence and robust collaboration with industry.”

At the regional level, Tsinghua University in China continues to lead as Asia’s top-ranked institution. In Thailand, the top three ranked universities are:

1. Chulalongkorn University

2. Mahidol University

3. King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi
