World Environment Day 2025 at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) opens a beautiful garden made from white foam waste under the theme "Use Plastic with Understanding, Transforming Thailand into a Sustainable Thailand."
On June 5, 2025, at the Integrated Academic Building 1, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), Asst. Prof. Dr. Ekrong Sukjit, Assistant to the President for Facilities and Facilities, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), presided over the opening ceremony of "World Environment Day 2025" on June 5, 2025, under the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution: Ending Global Plastic Pollution." The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, along with government and private agencies nationwide, have consistently promoted environmental awareness through organizing activities.
SUT organizes annual Environmental Day activities. This year, the SUT community has joined forces to organize diverse, creative activities to encourage awareness and participation. The aim is to raise awareness, promote the importance of reducing environmental problems, and encourage everyone to change their behavior and embrace a new way of life. This year's World Environment Day activities at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) were held at the Integrated Academic Building 1. The event included the opening ceremony of the "Upcycling Garden from White Foam Waste" project, organized by the Suranaree University of Technology Environmental Fund. Facilities staff were also supported by a demonstration of the innovation "Transforming White PS Foam Waste into Lightweight Construction Materials" by Asst. Prof. Dr. Uthai Meekham, a lecturer in the Department of Design Technology, School of Engineering, Suranaree University of Technology.
The demonstration included a practical demonstration of transforming white foam waste into concrete paving to enhance the beauty of the garden area around the integrated academic building. The event also included the launch of the "SUT Green Parking" project, a BTS Skytrain stop, awards for the top-selling recycled material bank member, the SUT Energy Challenge #2 competition for energy-saving buildings within Suranaree University of Technology, and tree-planting activities to increase green spaces around the integrated academic building. Furthermore, there was an exhibition on environmental issues and sustainable development. The event received cooperation from the Environmental Unit, Energy Management and Conservation Unit, Landscape Unit, Facilities Unit, Public Relations Unit, Student Entrepreneurship Development Center (SEDA), the Center of Excellence in Biomass, Asst. Prof. Dr. Uthai Meekham, and the Environmental Conservation Club. Importantly, all SUT students and staff who prioritize the environment participated in the activities.
SUT has raised awareness of the importance of the environment, both present and future.
It has encouraged students, staff, and university stakeholders to preserve the environment, reduce resource consumption, and utilize energy wisely. It has also promoted the expansion of green spaces, promoted green procurement, and implemented integrated waste management in line with the Zero Waste approach, including waste utilization and upcycling. The university has also promoted the use of more than 25% renewable energy within the university to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It has also set a goal to become a carbon-neutral university by 2035.
