Water pollution control in campus area

    • Admin

    1. Policy The university formulates measures to prevent water pollution in all untreated water resources used for water supply production which can negatively affect not only the water supply quality in the campus but also users’ health such as unpleasant odor as well as the university scenery. The measures include prohibitions of both aquatic animal possession and discharge of garbage or sewage in all water resources.

The university also sets up the wastewater control process from buildings, education buildings, student dormitories, guesthouses, and personnel apartments by transporting wastewater along wastewater gutters directly to the treatment station in the campus in order to prevent contaminating in the rainwater gutters transported to the untreated water resources. The wastewater from laboratories at the Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment will be treated at the chemical wastewater treatment station.

    2. Wastewater Treatment Wastewater produced in activities in the campus is transported to the wastewater treatment station at the amount of 387,135 cubic meters/ year or 31.38% of the amount of used water supply (846,553 cubic meters/ year). The station consists of both chemical and biological wastewater treatment systems. The chemical wastewater treatment system can treat chemical wastewater by 30 cubic meters/ day while the biological one can treat biological wastewater by 2,500 cubic meters/ day. The two systems can support both chemical and biological wastewater treatment for 100% of all produced wastewater (information regarding wastewater system and water quality analysis is shown in Section 3: Waste Item 3.6 Sewerage Disposal). The treated wastewater will enter the recycling system for further reuse at toilet flush system, urinals, and plant watering sites (information regarding water recycling system is shown in Section 4: Water Item 4.2 Water Recycling Program Implementation). 3. Guideline standard The university manages the untreated water quality in accordance with untreated water standard established by the Provincial Waterworks Authority and guidance of the World Health Organization (http://www.enviresearch.co.th/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%B2% E0%B8%95%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%90%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%99%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%B3%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%9A-WHO.pdf). The university also maintains both the untreated water quality for appropriateness in water supply production and preferred scenery of water resources.

    4. Monitoring and Evaluation The university monitors the monthly quality inspection of untreated water used in water supply production by sending untreated water samples to the Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Suranaree University of Technology for assessment (Laboratory Service Unit). The sample assessment is done once a month.
