
World Environment Day 2024
Suranaree University of Technology organizes World Environment Day 2024 activities to instill awareness in the sustainable conservation of natural resources.
Today (June 5, 2024), Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) organized World Environment Day activities to implement the United Nations' policy, which declared June 5 of every year as World Environment Day. In 2024, the campaign theme was Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience, "Rehabilitating the Land, Fighting the Drought Crisis". SUT organized activities that focused on raising awareness and instilling a sense of responsibility in reducing environmental problems and sustainably conserving natural resources, including the sharing of knowledge on energy conservation for staff and students by speakers from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, an exhibition of environmental and sustainable development innovations, a press conference on research and innovation results on "Transforming PS White Foam Waste into Lightweight Construction Materials", the "Opening the Conservation Path at SUT Bamboo Garden" activity, the "Dare-Leave Conservation" activity, which organized planting of seeds in recycled materials, tree planting, a bamboo trail exploration of more than 7 species of bamboo to be planted as a nature study and relaxation trail, and a slingshot reforestation activity, which was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Anan Thongra-ar, President of Suranaree University of Technology, presided over the ceremony, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Atcharawan Buriphakdi, Vice President for Human Resources and General Administration, faculty members, staff, and over 300 students participated in the event at Suraphat Building 6 (Butterfly Park) and Bamboo Garden, Suranaree University of Technology.
Suranaree University of Technology is an institution of higher learning that prioritizes the environment both in the present and in the future. It has announced policies and implemented missions that are aware of reducing environmental problems and jointly conserving natural resources sustainably through the 13th Suranaree University of Technology Development Plan (2023-2027), such as waste management with an emphasis on utilizing waste and generating income, reducing energy consumption, using renewable energy, recycling wastewater, and promoting the increase of green areas by reforestation. This has made Suranaree University of Technology ranked No. 1 in the country in waste management for 2 consecutive years, ranked No. 3 in Thailand, and joint No. 61 in the world, according to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2023, organized by the University of Indonesia (UI), demonstrating its commitment to environmentally friendly management and sustainable development.
