SUT: Planning Implementing and monitoring related to reducing energy consumption

Energy Efficiency Plan for Reducing Overall Energy Consumption Suranaree University of Technology (SUT)'s energy reduction plan focuses on sustainable development and efficient energy management, considering environmental responsibility and minimizing energy impact. The plan can be divided into several key components: 1. Energy Conservation in Buildings Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) implements an energy conservation plan in its buildings to increase energy efficiency and reduce overall electricity consumption, under the concept of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy management. Key Measures: Utilizing Natural Light: Designing buildings with sufficient natural light and ventilation to allow natural light into the building and help circulate air, reducing electricity consumption during the day. Switching to LED Lighting: SUT has replaced all lighting systems with LED bulbs, which have a longer lifespan and use less energy than conventional bulbs. Upgrading Air Conditioning Systems: Installing energy-efficient inverter air conditioners and maintaining optimal temperature to increase energy efficiency. Building Automation System (BAS): SUT utilizes a digital building automation system (BAS) to manage various building systems using computer and electronic technology. It helps the system operate efficiently, reduces energy loss, and enhances safety. The systems controlled and managed by BAS include: Air Conditioning System Sanitary System Fire Extinguishing System Lighting System Fire Alarm System Security System Indoor Transportation System These operations help maximize the building's energy efficiency, reduce unnecessary energy consumption, and support the university's sustainable development goals.

2. Renewable Energy Utilization Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) promotes the use of clean and renewable energy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Key projects include: Solar Panel Installation Project: SUT plans to install solar panels on the rooftops of various buildings within the university to generate electricity from solar energy, a clean and sustainable energy source. This will help reduce reliance on the public grid and lower long-term energy costs. Biomass Energy Utilization: SUT promotes the use of agricultural waste such as wood scraps, plant waste, or other biomass materials as fuel for energy production within the university. This promotes efficient resource utilization and reduces waste disposal. These approaches are part of the university's overall energy reduction plan and are a crucial mechanism for driving SUT towards becoming a green and sustainable university (SUT Green University).

3. Promoting Eco-Friendly Transportation Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) promotes the use of environmentally friendly vehicles to help reduce the use of fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions from transportation within the university. This is achieved through the following measures: Promoting Electric Vehicles (EVs): Encouraging faculty and students to use electric vehicles (EVs) within the university by providing charging stations for electric cars and motorcycles at multiple locations throughout the campus to facilitate and promote the transition to clean energy. Promoting Sustainable Public Transportation: Promoting the use of electric buses (EV buses) and bicycles as the primary modes of transportation within the university, reducing the use of private cars and significantly decreasing carbon dioxide emissions. This approach reflects SUT's commitment to developing sustainable transportation infrastructure while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and creating an environmentally friendly environment within the university.

4. Raising Awareness and Engaging the University Community Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) prioritizes raising awareness of energy conservation and engaging faculty and students in efficient energy use through various activities and projects, including: Campaigns and Training: SUT regularly organizes energy conservation campaigns and training to educate faculty and students on efficient energy use and its practical application in daily life. Energy Conservation Project Competitions: SUT supports competitions related to energy conservation to promote creativity and the use of technology to reduce energy consumption, as well as motivate the university community to participate in driving the university towards sustainable energy use. This approach is crucial in cultivating an energy conservation culture across all sectors of the university and promoting environmentally responsible behavior in the long term. Impactful university program(s) on climate change

5. Monitoring and Evaluation Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has continuously implemented energy monitoring and evaluation measures to enhance energy management efficiency and improve energy reduction plans. The approach includes: Energy Monitoring Systems: Installation of monitoring equipment and software systems for real-time energy usage monitoring in various buildings and areas of the university. This assesses energy usage patterns and quantities, identifies high-energy usage areas for improvement, and facilitates data analysis and reporting. Data Analysis and Reporting: The university analyzes energy usage data from the monitoring system and prepares summary reports of energy usage over time. This information is used to improve energy reduction plans and formulate future policies aligned with the university's energy conservation and sustainability goals.

Reducing Fuel Consumption by Promoting the Use of Electric Vehicles and Promoting Energy Savings Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is implementing the project “Reducing Fuel Consumption by Promoting the Use of Electric Vehicles and Promoting Energy Savings” to support the systematic transition from fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) within the university. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation within the university area and improve the efficiency of energy resource management by encouraging faculty and students to use electric vehicles instead of fuel-powered vehicles, while also promoting a culture of energy conservation and sustainability in daily life. This project is a key part of SUT's overall energy reduction plan, which aims to become a sustainable “Low Carbon & Green University”.

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) Policies to Reduce Private Car Dependency: Promoting walking and cycling within the university grounds. The university has constructed covered and uncovered bicycle paths along main roads and provides bicycle parking areas near academic buildings, recreational parks, and connecting points between dormitories and student affairs buildings to facilitate bicycle use and promote health. Offering free bicycle rentals for staff and students. Mountain bikes, city bikes, and electric bikes are available for rent free of charge to encourage the use of bicycles instead of private cars. Providing 6-seater electric vehicles for short-distance travel within the university. Electric vehicles are used for internal transportation such as picking up guests, visiting exhibitions, and coordinating between departments. Providing on-campus bus transportation throughout the day. Eight air-conditioned buses designed to international standards (Universal Design) are equipped with GPS tracking via the “SUT Smart Transit” app and CCTV cameras for security. Providing daily shuttle services at the market in front of the university in the evenings to facilitate travel for staff and students between the university and surrounding areas. These policies help reduce the use of fossil fuels within the university, promote the use of clean energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance SUT's sustainable energy management efficiency.
