SUT: local community outreach for energy efficiency

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) aims to create a sustainable, environmentally friendly energy city. Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has organized various projects to raise awareness and support the use of clean and efficient energy in local communities, as well as to encourage participation in energy conservation.

SUT SDGs: SUT Energy Challenge Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) emphasizes the "Reduce, Adapt, Change" concept of energy use to promote energy conservation in communities. This is achieved by disseminating policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly regarding accessible clean energy.


Event

Renewable Energy Project SUT (Suranaree University of Technology) is collaborating with an external organization, GPSC Group, to develop a smart energy project. This involves installing rooftop and floating solar systems within the university to serve as a model for sustainable energy management and peer-to-peer electricity trading.

With the development of this renewable energy project, SUT can generate up to 8.5 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity per year. This will reduce the university's electricity costs by up to 510 million baht over the project's 25-year lifespan and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 115,000 tons. The installation of floating solar panels will also reduce water evaporation in the reservoir by more than 30,000 cubic meters per year, enhancing the efficiency of renewable energy and establishing a new learning center for solar energy for the community, playing a significant role in sustainable and environmentally friendly energy conservation.


Event

The decentralized integrated community waste management project: Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), in collaboration with local administrative organizations, manages waste and produces refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to help alleviate the waste problem in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The pilot project is implemented in four locations in Nakhon Ratchasima: Pak Thong Chai Municipality, Sikhiu Municipality, Dan Khun Thod Sub-district Municipality, and Chae Sub-district Municipality. Each location can handle up to 25 tons of waste per day. SUT utilizes the SUT-MBT (Suranaree-Mechanical Biological Treatment) system to produce RDF (Refuse-Dose Fuel) and organic fertilizer.


Event

These activities not only aim to improve energy efficiency within the university but also focus on educating the community and visiting organizations for study visits, fostering knowledge exchange about sustainable and environmentally friendly energy use.

Suranaree University of Technology is co-organizing the "Korat Carbon Neutral City 2025" event, promoting the use of clean energy and green innovations towards a sustainable low-carbon city.

Campus

Suranaree University of Technology, in collaboration with the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce and Nakhon Ratchasima Province, is organizing the “Korat Carbon Neutrality Expo 2025” from June 11-12, 2025, at Terminal 21 Korat. The event aims to propel Nakhon Ratchasima and the lower Northeast region towards sustainable low-carbon and carbon neutrality. The expo features a variety of activities, including a declaration ceremony for “Driving Korat Towards Carbon Neutrality,” the establishment of a “University Collaboration Group to Promote Carbon Neutrality in the Lower Northeast Region,” and lectures and seminars on carbon reduction, green technology, innovative modern vehicles for green logistics, agricultural revitalization, and achieving Net Zero goals. There will also be exhibitions on green technology, a green logistics zone, clean energy trading, and booths selling environmentally friendly products and services. The event aims to raise awareness, disseminate knowledge, and promote innovations related to clean energy and carbon reduction across various sectors of society.
