SUT: Renewable energy beyond the university
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) and GPSC join forces to develop the “Smart Energy Innovation Project,” aiming for 100% renewable energy use.
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has collaborated with Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC) and partners to launch the “Smart Energy Innovation Project” to promote the sustainable use of renewable energy within the university. The project involves installing solar power generation systems, including both rooftop and floating solar systems, with a total capacity of over 5.99 megawatts (MWp). This can generate over 8.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 115,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and decreasing water evaporation in reservoirs by over 30,000 cubic meters per year. This project represents the university's commitment to 100% renewable energy use, incorporating a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to efficiently manage clean energy. Furthermore, it serves as a learning resource and model for clean energy technology for students and staff, reinforcing the university's commitment to becoming a leading institution in the utilization of renewable energy to achieve its goals concretely.
