Suranaree University of Technology's smoke-free campaign.
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has launched a campaign to become a smoke-free university in order to create a better environment and promote good health for students, staff, and visitors. In 2025, SUT will implement the following smoke-free university campaign activities:
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) hosted a leadership development camp for student leaders to become trainers and campaigners for the prevention of tobacco and e-cigarettes in the lower northeastern region. Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), through its Student Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Institution for a Smoke-Free and Sustainable Higher Education Institution, the Medical Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHPF), organized the “Leadership Development Camp for Student Leaders to Become Trainers and Campaigners for the Prevention of Tobacco and E-cigarettes in the Lower Northeastern Region” from January 14-15, 2025, at the Surasammankarn Building, SUT.
The objective of this activity was to cultivate activist leaders to disseminate knowledge and participate in campaigns to reduce, quit, and stop smoking and e-cigarette use. The event involved a network of 16 higher education institutions in the lower northeastern region, spanning 9 provinces: Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buriram, Surin, Yasothon, Sisaket, Amnat Charoen, Roi Et, and Ubon Ratchathani, with over 70 participants. Topics covered included training and special lectures on: personality development for students to become anti-smoking and e-cigarette campaigners; pitching strategies for e-cigarettes; a lecture on the health crisis of Thai youth: e-cigarettes, a hidden threat under social hype; the dangers of cigarettes and e-cigarettes that you may overlook; a speech contest on the topic "Why smoke cigarettes and e-cigarettes?"; and group presentations on "Misconceptions about e-cigarettes among youth." The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuenghathai Khopholklang, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT).
