SUT: Building on brownfield sites

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is constructing a Cancer and Radiotherapy Center building on the existing site, promoting efficient and sustainable land use.

Suranaree University of Technology Hospital (SUT Hospital) is constructing a Cancer and Radiation Therapy Center building within the hospital grounds, utilizing an area already developed and used for medical purposes. This project employs a sustainable land use approach, redeveloping and expanding the existing space (Brownfield Redevelopment) to support medical services and teaching without encroaching on new land. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 6, 2025, presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Anan Thongra-a, President of Suranaree University of Technology, with university and hospital executives in attendance, to ensure auspiciousness and smooth progress. The construction of this building is part of an expansion plan for Suranaree University of Technology Hospital, utilizing land efficiently by developing additional medical infrastructure on existing medical structures. This minimizes the need for expansion into new natural areas and supports the university's Smart and Sustainable Campus concept. Furthermore, the Cancer and Radiation Therapy Center building will elevate the standard of medical services for patients in the Nakhon Chai Burin region and surrounding areas, while also serving as a learning and training resource for medical and health science students, under the principles of sustainable development in environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
