Driving “Korat as a carbon neutral city 2024”

    Technopolis Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) in collaboration with the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Industrial Council drives environmental issues in line with Thailand's goal of becoming a country with net zero carbon (Net Zero Emission) by the year 2065 by organizing the event "Korat Carbon Neutrality Expo 2024" on August 2 - 3, 2024 on the 4th floor of Terminal 21 Nakhon Ratchasima Shopping Center.

    Korat Carbon Neutrality Expo 2024 aims to stimulate awareness and awareness of the importance of the environment and green businesses for entrepreneurs, public and private networks at regional and Nakhon Ratchasima province levels, which received cooperation from government agencies, organizations, and private sectors to participate in seminars and knowledge forums, such as “Thai Industry and Preparation for Climate Change Measures” and “Driving the City to Carbon Neutrality: A Case Study of Waste Management as Carbon Credit”, organizing product exhibitions, presenting innovations and technologies in carbon management, exhibitions of knowledge information from government and private agencies, sales of products and services related to Carbon Footprint, software/hardware, exchanging information on corporate carbon footprints, carbon credit investors, and many other activities.

    Asst. Prof. Dr. Pantip Piyatasananon, Assistant to the President for Mission Relations, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, SUT, said that “Suranaree University of Technology, as a co-organizer, together with the Federation of Thai Industries of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, with support from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), TCEB, organizing the “Korat Carbon Neutrality Expo 2024” for the second year, the university emphasizes on supporting all sectors to cooperate, create networks for exchanging knowledge, create participation, and plan to set goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving towards a carbon-neutral city to become a sustainable city by supporting them to have correct knowledge and understanding of carbon management. SUT is also committed to and is preparing to become a carbon footprint verification and verification body (TVER) or Validation and Verification Body (VVB). This collaboration will lead to both defensive and proactive preparations with awareness of the impacts of measures arising from international carbon management mechanisms, so that various sectors can Both the industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors in the Korat area and nearby areas have been affected the least or even become opportunities in the area if there is proper carbon management in the future.”

    Mrs. Thidarat Rod-anan, President of the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Chamber of Commerce, said that currently, Carbon Footprint is an important indicator for almost every step of human activities or actions in order to control the release of carbon dioxide, which is a major factor causing global warming. Carbon Footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases released from human activities, whether it is daily life, transportation, production of consumer goods, etc. Our daily lives or even waste from food each day all cause greenhouse gas emissions. Thailand's goal is to become a country with net zero carbon (Net Zero Emission) by the year 2065, which Thailand is considered one of the first developing countries in the world to set clear goals and standards for greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, actions must be taken to achieve the objectives. The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Chamber of Commerce, together with Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), organized the conference "Korat Carbon Neutrality City 2023" for industrial sector agencies that are members of the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Chamber of Commerce, business operators, The government, civil society, and international cooperation networks have come to exchange knowledge to find ways and plans to drive Thailand towards the goal of carbon neutrality. This event will focus on both knowledge of corporate carbon footprint, which is related to carbon emission management, and carbon credit, which is related to carbon emission reduction or absorption projects, as well as knowledge about Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).
