Suranaree University of Technology organizes tree planting activities to increase green space to celebrate 34th anniversary.
Associate Professor Dr. Anan Thongra-ar, President of Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), led executives, lecturers, staff, and students in a tree planting activity on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Suranaree University of Technology on July 24, 2024 at the SUT symbol plaza. There were a total of 334 trees, including the university’s signature tree, the Indian laburnum, the Indian laburnum, and the golden shower tree, which are trees that are suitable for the university’s area. The SUT president said, “The university places importance on creating knowledge and education, along with social and environmental responsibility. Planting trees today will not only help increase the beauty and shade of the university area, but also play an important role in the goal of reducing greenhouse gases because trees help absorb carbon dioxide, which accounts for 80 percent of greenhouse gases emitted. Planting one tree can absorb an average of 9–15 kilograms of CO2 per year and produce enough oxygen for two people per year, as well as reducing the temperature around the planting area by 2–4 degrees Celsius. Trees are therefore symbols of growth and sustainability, just like education. This is considered an investment in the future and a demonstration of the university’s concern and responsibility towards the community.”
