Number of Transportation Initiatives to Decrease Private Vehicles on Campus | Suranaree University of Technology
Description:
SUT launched the following policies to reduce the private car dependency:
1. Promoted SUT personnel and students in cycling and walking in the campus. SUT built cycling roads, roofed and unroofed, along both main streets and streets used for leisure and exercise. Bicycle parking lots were provided at SUT buildings, leisure parks used for exercising, and main streets used as shortcuts between dormitories and the Division of Student Affairs building.
2. Offered the free rental service of mountain, city, and electric bicycles to SUT personnel and students.
3. Operated the six-seated electric car service for multiple purposes such as collaboration, auditory work, and transport of important guests for short distances between buildings for visiting or attending exhibitions.
4. Operated the public transport service during 7.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m. in the campus area by using the 8 air-conditioned cars, each with universal design, 40 seats, installed GPS for tracking and site checking via “SUT Smart Transit” application (available at https://sites.google.com/g.sut.ac.th/sutsmarttransit for both Android and IOS mobile phones), and installed CCTV for improved security.
5. Operated the daily shuttle bus service at SUT front market in the evening.
