3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Program for University Waste



    Description:

    1. SUT Recycle Bank Activities

    Recycled Materials Bank It is a collection point for recyclable waste from students and staff by sending it to a recycling factory for reuse. Every Thursday from 3.30 p.m. – 6.00 p.m., 25 items of recycled materials purchased covering all types of recycling, able to collect 223,561 kg/year, or 13% of the total waste, in line with the target and with operating income to the Environmental Fund. 73,731 Baht/year to fund environmental activities within the university.

    2. PUN PEEP THONG Shop Project

    PUN PEEP THONG is a joint project of the Building Division and the Social Enterprise Club under the university's recycling project working group. To be a medium for sharing the congregation's belongings. By accepting donations selling second-hand items in good condition to be sold as a fund to benefit the environment and society for sustainability. 300 pieces/year, equivalent to 8,445 baht/year, reducing waste generation (Reuse) and greenhouse gas emissions by 120 tons CO2e/year.

    3. Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Project from Old Mattresses

    In collaboration with Wong Commercial Korat Top Secret Co., Ltd., the university has converted 14.14 tons of old worn mattresses from student dormitories into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to enter the electric power production process. Heating value, low humidity, size and density suitable for transport or sintering, and consistent chemical and physical composition. The general features of Refuse Derived Fuel are odorless. Sterile heat treatment Reduces the risk of exposure to germs. It is suitable for furnace-boiler feeding and is denser than conventional solid waste and biomass. It is suitable for storage and transportation and has a high calorific value equivalent to biomass. About 13-18 MJ/kg and low humidity about 5-10%



    4. Project to reuse old materials (SUT Recycle Bank)

    Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 819 tons CO2e/year. As for the premises, construction/renovation has been carried out by utilizing old materials as follows:
    1. PUN PEEP THONG shop project with an area of 20 square meters.
    2. Garbage rest area SURANIWET dormitory 16 with an area of 25 square meters.
    3. Paving a corridor block from dormitory to GATE 4 with an area of 300 square meters.
    4. Paving a worm block for the walkway, stair improvement project, and Water supply system ‘s lighting with an area of 300 square meters.
    5. Including shelves for hanging clothes inside for PUN PEEP THONG shop and Water supply system‘s maintenance materials shelves within the plumbing system as well.



    5. Project to donate old calendars to the blind

    Building Section Set up donation boxes for old year calendars between December 26, 2022 – January 15, 2023, totaling 1,575 calendars donated. On January 31, 2023, MTS students and external donors will be handed over to the Saints Foundation for the Blind in Thailand. Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, Nakhon Ratchasima is used as Braille media for the visually impaired and reuses waste materials to benefit the community and society. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 315 tons CO2e/year.

    6. RECYCLE for FRIEND by SUT Green Library

    The Library and Educational Media Center campaigned to recycle waste materials to benefit and set up donation points for waste materials and collect them to give to various agencies. Continue to exploit.

    Aluminum loop

    Set up an aluminum ring collection box from a can next to a beverage dispenser and a box to collect aluminum scrap from staples at all departments' offices and at Computer and printer service points, which were collected and handed over to the International Association of People with Mobility Disabilities and sent to the Aluminum Donation Project for the preparation of royal prosthetics.



    The envelope is folded into a medicine bag.

    It is another activity to turn waste into benefits by collecting used envelopes and paper wrapped in A4 paper to fold into bags. Decorate it beautifully and give it to the hospital for hospital visitors to use as a medicine bag to take home.



    Build roads to schools.

    Set up a donation point for used clear plastic bottles (PET bottles) at the Library Building. From December 2022 – January 2023, 72 kilograms of plastic bottles were received by the director of Library Center Asst. Prof. Dr. Sorada Rongkarn, Deputy Director of the Library Center, and representatives of the Library Center, The plastic bottle was handed over to Thailand Post Company Limited by Mr. Prapakorn Nilapai. Assistant Chief of Post Office Nakhon Ratchasima Province and his team are the delivery agents to process plastic waste into asphalt for paving roads in the Hua Hin Special Children School. Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the project "Green Plastic Road, Fulfilling Happiness for Hua Hin Special School."
